The body of a British woman has been found on a beach in India as police launch an investigation into the mysterious tragedy.

A group of locals spotted the 46-year-old near a church complex on Agonda beach close to Canacona, in southern Goa.

It has been reported that the woman was trying to climb a wall and fell, which resulted in a broken collarbone.

Police found her with her mobile phone and other possessions.

Detectives are unsure how long she lay injured for before she was found dead.

Police inspector Chandrakant Gawas said: “She was found with no injuries, her clothes and possessions including mobile phone and identity documents were intact.

“We do not suspect foul play. We can comment on the cause of death only after the postmortem.”
