Oldham Athletic have announced they’ve suspended Alex Reid over a social media post he put on Instagram on Christmas Day that caused a stir among fans.
Reid took to Instagram to put up a clip of him and his Oldham team-mates seemingly preparing for training on Christmas Day.
One player could hear asking, “Why are we here?” before another person added, “What the f*** are we doing here?”
The post soon went viral across social media, with Oldham supporters unhappy with the players’ actions.
Oldham has suspended Reid for the post, which has since been deleted from his account.
The club’s statement read: “Oldham Athletic has suspended striker Alex Reid pending an internal investigation.
“The course of action follows reports of a social media post which appeared on 25 December.
“Alex will be suspended while the investigation takes place, and the club will make no further comments until it is complete.”
Reid’s suspension comes after a furious backlash from some Oldham fans who were furious with some of the players in the short clip.
One Instagram user wrote: “Absolutely disgusting attitude given how much we’re underperforming in the league. They don’t deserve a day off.”
