Yeovil Conservative MP Marcus Fysh Avoided Christmas Light Turn-On In Preference For Cricket World Cup Final Early Start Say Party Members
Yeovil Conservative Party members claim that as the town turned on its Christmas lights, local MP Marcus Fysh went for a beer and an early night to prepare to watch Australia play India in the Cricket World Cup final.
Thousands of residents flocked to the Somerset town centre of Yeovil to watch the switch on by Yeovil Town Football Chairman Martin Hellier.
At the start of the season, Hellier was awarded the prestigious position of turning on the town’s Christmas lights after rescuing the local football club from liquidation.
While the town mayor, other political parties, and councillors attended, residents asked where the town’s MP was.

Darren Laventure told Global247news:
‘ Many were asking where Marcus Fysh was; after all, he’s supposed to represent the town. Even in ill health, the mayor and local councillors were there, but there was no sign of Fysh.
‘ I spotted one of his office staff, who worked above the old Argos, and asked; she said, ‘ Australia are in the World Cricket Cup Final tomorrow; from what I understand, he went for an early beer and bed as the final starts on TV early morning. ‘ I was flabbergasted by the reply.’
Fysh, born in Australia, is an avid cricket fan, but his latest actions have come as no surprise to residents of Yeovil.
‘ He’s not done anything for this town since his arrival as MP in 2015; why would he turn up tonight?’ laughed Derek Doonigton.
