Residents in Yeovil flock to the independent new coffee shop at Pen Mill Station.
Yeovil’s residents are lapping up their morning and afternoon coffees and cakes at a new coffee shop at Pen Mill Station.
Opening just after the Covid Pandemic, the new independent coffee shop is steaming ahead, beating the likes of Costa Coffee and Cafe Nero with what clients say is far better coffee at lower prices.
Mary Wilkson, from Lyde Road in Yeovil, told Global247news how she has switched from going to the towns Costa Coffee to ‘ Coffee At The Station.’
She said: ‘ The coffee is so much more excellent, so well roasted, and the prices are lower too; at the same time, I know I’m supporting a local business, unlike the chains who, as we know, Tax dodge.
‘Also, whilst I enjoy not having to go into town amid the many vagrants in the dead town centre, my grandchildren now come with me as they like to watch the trains. It’s far better than looking out at the eyesore town centre.’
Meanwhile, whilst residents like Mary are taking full advantage, commuters too are delighted with the opening; David Prance from Abbey Manor Park travels to Westbury daily on his commute and commented: ‘ It’s such a lovely little place and finishes off my walk to the station perfectly every morning, first I walk down through the beauty of Nine Springs and then warm up with a brew with Nick before boarding my train, Nick is so friendly and always up for a chat, his coffee is grades above anything else in the town.’
Barista Nick has become a cult figure at the station with locals already having nicknamed him ‘Latte Nick’ which he laughs at, he told Global247news; ‘ I just do my best to serve the finest coffee and I just love chatting to my customers, when we opened up we thought our main custom would be train travellers and it’s taken us a little by surprise how many people just come down for a coffee and a cake, I can’t thank everybody enough for the business since opening, I love my role and chatting away to all my customers makes my day, it flies by’ said ‘ Latte Nick’.
