A mother has appeared in court charged with the murder of her two-year-old son in Bridgend.
Natalie Steele, 31, of Broadlands, spoke only to confirm her name via videolink at Cardiff Crown Court.
Reid Steele died at the University Hospital of Wales, Cardiff, last Thursday, a day after he was found critically injured.
The court heard psychiatric reports would be needed ahead of the next hearing.
Broadlands residents and fellow mothers who know the mother have come forward to say how they are in shock still over what appears a murder of a child in Bridgend, making it two deaths of local children in the past month.
Donna Hughes said: “It Still has not sunk in, I often saw her down the shops, and you would never believe she could do this.
“The estate is still reeling; we have had two suspected murders in what 4 weeks? What on earth is going on?” she said.
