Deaf Katie Rowley has won in the High Court as she challenged the government
This morning the High Court in London has upheld a compensation claim by a deaf woman for the lack of sign language during Covid broadcasts.
Katie Rowley, from Leeds, took legal action against the Cabinet Office and this morning won her case.
She claimed it had neglected its legal obligations to make broadcasts accessible to deaf people.
She said she wanted a ‘declaration of unlawfulness’ and compensation for ‘injury to feelings’.
Ministers disputed her claim and lawyers representing the Cabinet Office said it should be dismissed.
