Police have made an arrest of a teenager from Bideford after a brutal assault in Barnstaple.
As previously reported, a horrific fight broke out on the weekend, leaving a man in hospital with a fractured skull and possibly permanent brain injuries.
Now, after investigating the scene as well as studying CCTV – police have made an arrest of a 19-year-old from Bideford with suspicion of assault causing grievous bodily harm.
The arrested Bideford teenager remains in police custody.
Although local police are appealing for further witnesses of the mass brawl that took place.
Many eyewitnesses told on social media of the appalling scenes and described how the sound of the mand head cracking was horrific. Now police are urging them to come forward as they prepare a case against the Bideford teenager.
The incident took place as one of Barnstaple’s ‘Scummy Venues’ described by locals at Boutport Street near Rumours Nightclub at around 11.30 pm on Saturday, June 12.
Local Ryan Thorne described the area and club as “Literally the worst pub in town followed by the one underneath it, what can you expect good old scummy Barnstaple” as he scorned on the Devon town.
It’s a sentiment held by many locals that the North Devon town is degrading itself by the week, and the council need to step in.
Alan Martin told Global247news.” Barnstaple is becoming a right hovel, and this latest incident is of no surprise, sadly the town is attracting the undesirables who come into town, get rat arsed and start fighting, there’s a weekly fight break out at that club, and it should be closed down.
“It’s only being highlighted now as the lads ended up in hospital in a terrible way; the council needs to take action and clear the town of the scum.” he stormed.
