Poignant letter found on plane from start of the pandemic

A note has been found on a Delta Airlines plane from a pilot.

Poignant letter found on plane from start of the pandemic. It was placed in a cockpit storage tray at the start of the pandemic. A pilot found the letter while the plane was being made ready to start service again. When First Officer Chris Dennis parked the plane at Southern California logistics airport in March 2020 he left the note for the next pilot. The airport was used to house hundreds of aircraft that had been grounded by the pandemic.

Dennis’ note read “Hey pilots, it’s March 23rd and we just arrived from Minneapolis-Saint Paul International Airport. Very chilling to see so much of our fleet here in the desert. If you are here to pick it up then the light must be at the end of the tunnel. Amazing how fast it changed. Have a safe flight bringing it out of storage.”

The letter was discovered by First Officer Nick Perez 435 days after it was written and stored away. In a statement released through Delta Perez said “He had to have been thinking he was leaving his job.

Back in March, I was 100% certain I was going to lose my job. I kept thinking about my mindset now compared to his when he left this note.

We were getting good at landing empty airplanes, now we’re going in the right direction. I’m in good spirits. I’m very optimistic.”
