Fantastic Beasts actor jailed over sexual assault. Guthrie, who starred in Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelward, was convicted of the sexual assault at a flat in Glasgow. Belonging to actor friend Scott Reid which took place in September 2017.
The woman, who was due to meet the pair at a bar in the city, was taken unwell. And Reid took her back to his flat. She said that Guthrie groped and kissed many times by Guthrie. But he would stop when Reid entered the room.
Denying the allegations the actor said he was merely helping her after she felt unwell. She believed her drink had been spiked at the bar. A jury at Glasgow Sheriff Court was told his DNA was found in her underwear after the incident.
He was sentenced to three years in prison yesterday. Guthrie will also be placed on the sex offenders register. Sheriff Hughes told Guthrie “You had an educational background and worked extremely hard to get a part in acting in acclaimed films. The court must show that women can be protected from domestic sexual offenses and those who do should suffer serious consequences.
The offense you have been convicted of caused distress and consequences to the young woman involved in this case. You committed this crime in a position of trust.
The jury accepted that you committed these heinous crimes and the only appropriate sentence is imprisonment.” Guthrie was dropped from his latest television show after his conviction and all episodes have been removed from viewing on iPlayer.
