BANGED UP:Clumsy Knife Robber Kerry Lang in Wales dropped knife

A man who threatened a shopkeeper with a knife before dropping it has been jailed for two years.

Kerry Lang, 39, of Eighth Avenue, Merthyr Tydfil, went into the Nisa Store on Pontmorlais High Street on Wednesday, 4th March (2021) and demanded money while threatening the shopkeeper.

The shopkeeper refused, but Lang continued to threaten him before dropping the knife on the counter.

When he saw the shopkeeper had grabbed the knife, he picked up a tin of beans and tried to hit him before leaving the shop and running away.

The shopkeeper contacted 999 and gave a description, and Lang was spotted minutes later in the town centre by police officers who flooded the area.

He pleaded guilty to attempted robbery and possessing a knife in a public place and was jailed for two years at Merthyr Crown Court on 28th April 2021.

Detective Constable Rhodri Price said: “The shopkeeper acted with bravery and his quick thinking disarmed his attacker, which ensured he got away with nothing.

Town centre officers also responded quickly and spotted Kerry Lang minutes later, so I would also praise them for their actions that day.”
