Sussex father jailed for killing 8-week-old daughter

The parents of an 8-week-old girl who died at her Sussex home have been jailed.

Sussex father jailed for killing 8-week-old daughter: Paramedics found baby Holly Roe not breathing and unresponsive. Despite frantic attempts to revive her she was pronounced dead just two hours later. A court heard that the father, Michael Roe, tried to blame his wife for their daughter’s death. A trial discovered that little Holly, who was a premature baby, died at the hands of her father.

On Friday the court heard that she suffered “forceful shaking, traumatic impact, or both.” The jury found Mr Roe guilty of murder on Wednesday and his wife, Tiffany Tate, guilty of allowing the murder to take place. Sentencing took place at Hove Crown Court on Friday. Mr Roe, from Crowborough, Sussex, was jailed for life with a minimum of 19 years.

Also his wife, who is 22, was jailed for 2 years and 9 months. During sentencing Mr Justice Edward Murray said “When you get frustrated you would lose your temper and lash out.

Unfortunately for baby Holly one lashing out proved fatal. Clearly you had a position of trust in relation to Holly. The highest possible as her father, which you abused.

Your efforts Michael Roe to pin the blame on Tiffany Tate began even before Holly’s death.” Defending Roe, Lewis Power QC described his traumatic childhood and physical abuse. He said “This clearly in this case appears to have repeated itself.”

He went on to say that Roe was “of previous good character.” Tate’s defense, Danny Robinson, said there was no knowledge of her witnessing Holly being shook and said she had co-operated throughout.
