A police officer was left unconscious while trying to stop an illegal lockdown party.
Police officer knocked unconscious trying to stop lockdown party: Seven others were reported to have been injured. The incident happened in Walworth, south London. Officers had been called to reports of a robbery taking place on Portland Street. The Metropolitan police released a statement saying one victim had been assaulted and his phone stolen.
Earlier, Officers attended an address on Hopwood Road after reports the assailants had been seen heading there. They discovered a group of 30 people partying and breaking lockdown rules. The Met police said the party goers became violent, throwing drink and objects at the police. One was left unconscious while another received a broken hand.
The decision was taken to withdraw and backup units were called to the scene. As they managed to stop the party four people were arrested. This included a 17-year-old who the robbery victim identified as taking his phone. Central South Command Unit’s Chief Inspector, Richard Blears, said “Restrictions are still in place to protect lives.
Every person who attended this illegal gathering has acted selfishly and irresponsibly and has potentially put others at risk. Not only that, but some have even gone as far as physically harming the officers who attended the scene, which is totally unacceptable. We will continue to enforce breaches of COVID-19 restrictions when they are alerted to us.”
