Furlough is to be extended until the end of September but will be amended to save taxpayer money, the Chancellor is set to announce
Sunak is expected to say that the Covid19 Job Retention Scheme will remain in place until the end of September, having protected more than 11 million jobs since its inception.
Yet the Government’s contribution will be reduced from July – with employers then asked to contribute alongside the taxpayer for the cost of furloughed employees.
It has been made clear that employees will continue to receive 80% of their salary for hours not worked until the scheme ends.
