If you have ever liked the idea of being Lord of your own castle then you are in luck.
Castle ruin could be yours for the price of a London flat: A 600 year old castle, mainly ruins, has been put on the market. It dates from the 15th Century and would cost you the same as a flat in Croydon, south London. The asking price is just £225,000. The ancient property, Piteadie Castle in Kirkcaldy, Fife, was constructed in the 15th Century but 200 years later had renovation work to add a stair tower.
It also boasts it’s own tennis court. Historic Environment Scotland have urged any new owner “to preserve cultural significance” and bear in mind that restoration “should be sensitive”. The property has been listed by Savills, and Jamie McNab from the company said “The castle ruins and adjacent land are an interesting prospect, with the opportunity to develop the site for residential use being a distinct possibility, though naturally planning consent and the support of Historic Environment Scotland would be required.”
The castle boasts stunning views across to the Firth of Forth and sits in the grounds of Piteadie House, a beautiful manor house property that is also on the market for £1,200,000. The castle also has an orchard of 30 fruit trees, a stone pavilion and a chicken coop in the garden.
