A pensioner has been jailed for five years for killing his wife five days into the first UK lockdown.
Anthony Williams, 70, was cleared of murder following a trial but pleaded guilty to manslaughter by reason of diminished responsibility after strangling Ruth Williams, 67, at their home in Cwmbran, South Wales, on March 28 last year.
A psychologist argued Williams’ depression and anxiety ‘was heightened at the time of the attack, which ‘substantially’ impaired his ability to exercise self-control.
