Television star Sir Lenny Henry, 62, joked about his “varied career” last night after he was revealed as the Blob.
Masked Singers Blob and Viking revealed on hit TV show: He said there hasn’t been a lot to do in recent months. So when he was asked to participate he jumped at the chance. He said “I’ve been in lockdown since March! They said: ‘Can you do this?’ I said, ‘Yes, OK! I’ll come!’” He went on to say that it had been “a joy to take part and I’ve really enjoyed it”.
Joel Dommett, the host, joked with Sir Lenny about his “journey from Shakespeare to Blob” with him replying “It’s a huge career arc!” Panel judge Davina McCall had guessed it was Sir Lenny, with other guesses of Morgan Freeman and Stephen Fry being bantered about. Sir Lenny said it had been incredible difficult not to let on to friends it was him.
But said he had “enjoyed being disguised”. The comedian and actor said “I’ve had so many emails since the show began, from the most unlikely people asking if I’m Blob. It’s been hilarious.” About being inside the Blob he joked “It’s hot in here you know… I was like Health Secretary Matt Hancock at a briefing. I was sweating.” Last night’s show saw a double eviction, with Morten Harket from 80’s band A-Ha, being revealed as the Viking.
Afterwards Harket said “I did it because I needed to be kicked out of my comfort zone and I have been. I’ve never done anything like that before.”
