A man who killed a schoolboy after paying him over £2,000 to keep quite about their sexual relationship has been jailed.
Man who killed schoolboy to hide their sexual relationship jailed for life: Farmer’s son Matthew Mason, 20, admitted killing the 15-year-old with a wrench. The horrific incident took place in woods in Ashley, Cheshire on 12th December 2019. Although he admitted bludgeoning Alex Rodda to death he denies murder.
He argues that he lost his temper and control after Rodda had blackmailed him. A jury at Chester Crown Court earlier this month rejected this argument from Mason and found him guilty by a majority verdict. Mason was sentenced to a minimum of 28 years in prison.
Honorary Recorder of Chester Judge Steven Everett told him after sentencing that “This was a pre-meditated murder, carefully planned and, in my judgment, ruthlessly carried out showing no empathy for your victim and a callous disregard for his family and friends.”
