Prince William is due to lose his closest aide, the second in just a year.
Prince William’s private secretary quits: Christian Jones, who became the Prince’s private secretary last year, will leave to join Bridgepoint, the private equity group, as a partner. Jones, 31, was previously William and Kate’s communications secretary. He will head up corporate affairs for Bridgepoint, the £18 billion company.
It is believed he will remain as a Royal advisor to the couple. He has also helped them in staying visible to the public during the coronavirus pandemic. A Royal source said “Christian has really helped them to steer them through their public-facing role during the pandemic. He’s helped them to grow in confidence by gently pushing them out of their comfort zone.”
Jones was recruited by Kensington Palace as deputy communications secretary in December 2018, providing PR advice to both the Cambridges and the Duke and Duchess of Sussex. After three months he gained promotion to their communications secretary. After that he became the Duke’s private secretary and head of the royal household.
His departure comes after it emerged that Julian Payne, Prince Charles’s spin doctor of five years, is leaving Clarence House to join Edelman, the communications firm.
