RHONDDA MAN NOMINATED FOR PRIME MINISTER’S POINTS OF LIGHT RECOGNITION
Shaun Toms from Rhondda South Wales has been nominated by his friend Glyn Cox, after Shaun volunteered to take local older residents on free taxi journeys and do their essential shopping, completely free of charge during the 2020 lockdown.
Toms, a popular character in the South Wales valleys has always been known by those who know him as a ‘big man with a big heart’ – although when it came to the lockdown, thousands of more Welsh folk have found that out.
When the lockdown struck, Shaun wasn’t just going to sit still, and he started making a few runs for the old-age pensioners to the shops, but word soon spread amongst the old folk and he found himself making up to 30 runs a day without charging a single penny – not even for fuel.
“He’s our local hero,” said war veteran Robert Davies, whilst I didn’t need his services, I watched as this legend of a man took upon himself his duties, he deserves a medal, I know so many people of my age group who he assisted through such troubled times, he really is a legend and I’m very pleased he’s been nominated for an award.
A friend of Shuan’s on Facebook said “Well deserved, couldn’t happen to a nicer fella” summing up the feelings of all the Valleys.
