A former boss of Eastenders, Dominic Treadwell-Collins, has recalled life on the soap with actress Barbara Windsor saying that she often kept he co-stars in line.
Barbara Windsor and June Brown showdown recalled by former Eastenders boss: Dominic recalled one time when Dame Barbara had a confrontation with June Brown, who played the character Dot Cotton. During an interview with Radio Times he revealed “Barbara was the best executive producer EastEnders never had.
She was so sharp, she knew the audience, and kept actors young and old in check. Once, June Brown shouted at us from her dressing room window, ‘Your storylines are shit.’ Barbara grabbed her, brought her upstairs and told her to apologise.” He had worked alongside Dame Barbara on some of the soap’s biggest storylines, including the dramatic one in 2016 when her character Peggy Mitchell took her own life.
In real life Barbara passed away last month at the age of 83 after her six year battle with Alzheimer’s disease. She had spent her last years campaigning for better awareness of the disease, even meeting with the Prime Minister to discuss dementia care in the UK. A fundraiser in Barbara’s name has raised over £100,000 since she passed away with all donations going to Alzheimer’s Research UK.
