After a 28-year-old man was stabbed to death in Newham, East London, a teenager has been apprehended and charged with his murder.
Teenager charged with stabbing a man to death in broad daylight in East London: Following reports of a man being assualted Met Police were called to the scene at around 3.15pm on Tuesday at Stondon Walk in East Ham to find the victim, Abiola Olalekan Akerele, with stab wounds. Despite the best efforts of the London Ambulance Service and an air ambulance Mr Akerele was pronounced dead at the scene.
Later that evening a young man was arrested at an address in Newham and was named as 18-year-old Rayhan Yasin Ali. The teenager was subsequently charged with murder on Friday and was due to appear at Thames Magistrates Court on Saturday. Two other people, a 20-year-old man and a 17-year-old woman, were also arrested on suspicion of murder and remain in police custody.
The cause of Mr Akerele’s death has been confirmed as a stab wound to the heart after a post-mortem examination was carried out. Met’s Specialist Crime Command (Homicide) Detective Inspector Joanna Yorke said “Our investigation is continuing at pace and we are working tirelessly to give Abiola’s family the answers they deserve.
This murder took place in daylight, in a residential area, at a time when we know many people were in their homes. I believe that there will be people in the local community who either saw, heard or know something about this incident. I urge those people to get in touch.”
