Following a collision with a Land Rover Discovery in the New Forest Nation Park four ponies have died.
Four ponies killed by Land Rover in the New Forest: Police said that the ponies had been licking salt from the road when they were struck by the vehicle. Three of the ponies were pronounced dead at the scene, in Roger Penny Way just north of the village of Brook, with a fourth discovered nearby.
The cause of the accident is being investigated by Hampshire police who said that the road has a 40mph speed restriction. They have posted a statement to social media along with a picture of the damaged vehicle, saying “Animals are on the Forest roads licking the salt that has been freshly laid. Please take extreme care to avoid any further incidents.” It has been reported that the male driver of the Land Rover was unhurt in the accident.
