A further 357 people have died with coronavirus, as cases across the UK rose by 41,385.
It’s the biggest number of new infections the nation has ever recorded.
There were also 2,143 people admitted to hospital with the virus on Sunday, government figures revealed.
There are now 21,286 patients in hospital with Covid, 1,529 of whom require a ventilator.
The data showed there had been 507,384 Covid tests carried out in the 24 hours previous, with a testing capacity of 708,293.
So far 616,933 people have received a vaccine for the virus.
The death toll from the Department of Health includes people who have died with the virus across all settings within 28 days of a positive test.
Among the number published today were 318 hospital deaths recorded in England and 15 in Wales.
