Tesco has introduced buying limits on everyday popular items ahead of fears over stock depletion.
Tescos introduces buying limits on popular products: Items such as eggs, rice, soap and toilet rolls are included in the purchasing limits. The supermarket giant announced the move in emails to customers saying it was to ensure that essential products do not run out. Whilst shopping people will only be allowed 3 of each item, with the move coming as thousands of delivery lorries remained stranded in Kent due to freight travel restrictions between the UK and France which is set to last for 48 hours due to fears over the new variant of COVID.
Although they have placed restrictions Tesco assured customers that their stock levels are “very good” and urged people to “shop as you normally would”. Grant Shapps, Transport Secretary, said that while some France-UK freight travel can now resume drivers are still being warned not to travel to Kent due to the ongoing disruption. Many other countries have banned people arriving from the UK.
