Amazon has announced that the Queen’s Christmas Day message to the nation will be available on Alexa smart devices this year.
Queen’s Christmas Day message will be available on Alexa devices this year: The annual tradition, started by King George V in 1932, will be available to users who can ask Alexa to play the message in full. The speech will become available on Amazon Echo speakers across the Commonwealth from 3pm on Christmas Day and will include language settings for each country.
Director of Alexa Europe, Eric King, said “After a challenging year, millions of people from across the Commonwealth will be eagerly awaiting Her Majesty the Queen’s message on Christmas Day. By creating this world-first innovation, just as we did in 2012 with the release of the Queen’s Christmas speech on Kindle, we hope that even more people will be able to enjoy the uplifting words of Her Majesty.
This really is one for the history books and showcases just how far technology has advanced since the very first speech was delivered back in 1932.” It is expected this year that the Queen’s speech will be focused on the coronavirus pandemic with the Monarch praising the efforts of key workers, charities and the Armed Forces. The Queen is allowed freedom to view her own opinions during the speech on one of the rare occasions she does not need to go through Government. The Queen made her first Christmas broadcast in 1952 and her first televised Christmas broadcast in 1957, live from Sandringham.
