After a two week break from Good Morning Britain Kate Garraway returned yesterday (Thursday) and revealed to the nation that during her absence her family underwent a COVID scare.
Kate Garraway returns to our screens after recent family COVID scare: Her husband, Derek Draper, has been in hospital seriously ill since March after contracting the virus and Kate told co-presenter Ben Shephard that she and her children had faced “multiple challenges” during the last two weeks. She said “It’s lovely to be back, I’m sorry I’ve been absent for a couple of weeks now.”
She went on to explain “Well, we had a few challenges kicking off, challenges with Derek as there always are. We had, outside of Derek, a little bit of a scare. In the sense that, we found out the children had come into contact with somebody who after they came into contact with them, tested positive for coronavirus.”
She continued “It’s happening a lot because of schools, so just to be ultra, ultra, ultra cautious, kept them at home, kept me at home until we got negative tests. We got two negative tests actually, because you know me, more is more. So all three of us had negative tests, mercifully.” Derek, who remains in hospital, was admitted in March and placed into an induced coma.
He has remained there ever since and in October Kate said that he was able to breathe without the help of a ventilator and had mouthed his first word.
