A murder investigation has been launched after police discovered the body of a man who disappeared nine years ago.
Dariusz Michalowski, 44, a loving father and husband, was last seen at his home in Birkby on 13 March 2011.The Pole had come to the UK from Poland to work but completely vanished, leaving West Yorkshire Police stumped by the disappearance.
Police are treating Dariusz’s death as murder and have urged anyone with information about the killing to come forward.
Detective Chief Inspector Tony Nicholson of the Homicide and Major Enquiry Team said the breakthrough will bring comfort to his family who can lay him to rest, but added that they deserve “to know what happened to him”.
He also warned those who know what happened to him that the “net is drawing tighter” and said the force will never give up on finding out what happened to him,
Inspector Nicholson said: “This is a key breakthrough in the disappearance of Dariusz and I’m glad that after nine long years, we have found his body and can bring him back to his family to be laid to rest.
“Dariusz was a husband and father who was working to provide for a young family who deserves to know what happened to him
“His family are now keen to see justice for Dariusz’s Murder and urge anyone with information to come forward.
“We know that there are people out there who know how Dariusz died, who killed him, and who dumped his body in a field.”
