A family on the school run have been caught up in what appears to be a terrifying road rage attack as a man brandishing a machete attacked their car.
Stunned fellow parents and the school dialled 999 as the man was seen smashing his weapon against the windscreen and onto the car bonnet as a child was in the car.
The attack took place outside school gates while parents were dropping off their children in Dudley on Wednesday.
Footage captured by the shocked mum shows a man taking the weapon and banging it on the vehicle’s bonnet before smashing the windscreen of a car.
The 23-year-old mum, who did not want to be named, claims that despite four 999 calls from witnesses and the school, West Midlands Police did not attend the incident “as the perpetrators had fled the scene”.
She said she was “shocked and disappointed” officers did not come out following the attack at 9.11am.
The healthcare worker said her partner, who was driving, had initially asked the driver of a van to slow down when he sped around a sharp corner.
Seconds later the van driver’s passenger carried out the unprovoked attack that was captured on camera.
The mum said, “It’s really traumatising. There were children walking around. It was outside the school gates.
“We are still in shock. They sped around the corner and nearly clipped us. Both vehicles had to come to an emergency stop because of how he swung around the corner.“He then pulled his window down and my partner just said: ‘Brother, there’s children running around, crossing the street – slow down next time.’
“And then it was pure aggro, making threats trying to reach in to grab my partner.
“While he’s doing that I can see the passenger get out. I thought he was up to no good and pulled my phone out to start recording him.
“My daughter was also in the back crying. She’s absolutely traumatised. It’s disgusting. She keeps crying and asking her teachers: ‘Is mummy okay? The bad man smashed the window’.”
The mum said the men fled the scene, but she did manage to note down the number plate of the grey-coloured Mercedes van.
However, she claims she didn’t hear anything from police after reporting the incident and was given a police log number.
She claims she called officers via the non-emergency number 101 to find out what was happening – but said she was initially told an officer would be in touch on Thursday, December 10.
“This isn’t good enough,” said the mum.
“This is a dangerous man who has pulled out a weapon. Police need to act now.
“A man with a machete has gone free. It’s crazy.”
She claims her partner was later pulled over by police officers due to the smashed window.
He explained what had happened to officers, who she claims were “gobsmacked” and told him to get it fixed.
