In shocking scenes from CCTV at a railway station a 16-year-old boy is seen sitting in the waiting room at York station when he is attacked and kicked in the face.
Attack on teenager at railway station caught on CCTV camera: Harry Powell, who is 19, appeared at York Magistrates Court on Tuesday and pleaded guilty to the assault. He was handed a four month prison sentence British Transport Police said. The victim of the attack has not been named, however the court were told that Powell, along with a group of mates, aggressively confronted the teenager in the waiting room before he spat and him and kicked him hard in the face.
After the attack, on 30th October, the boy was left in such distress that he could not complete his journey and had to be picked up. Pc Mollie Chapman, BTP investigating officer, said “This was a completely unprovoked attack on a stranger who was simply minding his own business. Powell is nothing but a bully who was clearly attempting to play the big man in front of his mates and deliberately picked on someone who was alone and refused to engage in his name calling and abuse.
The victim did his best to avoid any confrontation by ignoring Powell’s repeated intimidation and provocation, and even when attacked, offered no retaliation, which is credit to him and his character. This vile assault has caused the 16-year-old victim great distress, prevented him from resuming his normal routine and hobbies and left him afraid to travel alone by train.”
