Kamir Khan, 31, and from Rotherham, has been jailed after pursuing an 11-year-old girl on Whatsapp and Snapchat, continually pestering her by sending more than 4,000 lewd messages and indecent photos over a 3 month period.
Man jailed after pestering 11-year-old girl on social media: Khan asked the girl to send him nude photographs, told her her loved her and wanted to marry her. The 31-year-old’s abuse of the girl came to light when her mother went through her phone and discovered messages from someone called “Zayn” at which point she immediately alerted the police and the girl owned up to what had been going on.
Khan was jailed for four and a half years at a trial at Sheffield Crown Court after admitting to two counts of assaulting a child under 13 years of age and engaging in sexual communication with the girl. He has also been placed on the sex offenders register. Investigating Officer Rachel Scott said in a statement “Khan preyed on his victim over a period of months, taking full advantage of her age, and her vulnerability.
He manipulated her into thinking he was her boyfriend, and it was normal for him to send her such explicit messages. This girl has been incredibly strong throughout this inquiry and I couldn’t be prouder of how much she has assisted our investigation.”
She went on to add “I want to take this opportunity to remind young people to consider their safety online and never give out personal details or share intimate pictures. To parents, if your child is on social media sites, please be vigilant and regularly ask who they are speaking to.”
