Supermarket giant Morrisons have announced that they will be offering a 10% discount on shopping. To more key workers such as armed forces, care workers and emergency services in all of their 498 stores across the UK.
Morrisons supermarkets extend discount to more key workers: The move comes after they have already put in a place a 10% discount scheme for NHS and school staff. Anyone is eligible for the discount as long as they hold a Blue Light card. Which is a scheme for public sector workers to receive discounts from local stores as well as national retailers.
It costs £4.99 for a 2-year membership to the scheme. And currently there are 2.3 million essential workers who are members. Retailers that are part of the scheme include River Island, New Look, O2 and Paperchase. Members include those who work in the ambulance and fire services. The police, Border Force, British Army, HM Coastguard, Prison Service. Red Cross, Reserve Armed Force, Royal Air Force, Royal Marines and Royal Navy.
Restaurants and hotels are also places where staff can get money off. Morrisons said in a statement. “The Morrisons discount, which is valid till after Christmas, is a thank you to the thousands of key workers. Including social care workers who have gone above and beyond their usual roles. To provide care and support to the British public throughout the coronavirus pandemic this year.”
Another benefit for Blue Light card holders is the dedicated shopping hour between 6-7am Monday to Saturday. Where they can shop before the stores are open to members of the public.
