Central Florida set to be 'hit hard' by Storm Eta today

Tropical storm Eta restrengthened to a Category 1 hurricane briefly yesterday (Wednesday) as she hit the Gulf of Mexico before weakening to a tropical storm as she headed for the west coast of Florida bringing with her major flooding.

Video footage taken by spectator Shane Spring shows him crossing a causeway as the storm surge hits, with him saying “crazy on the way to Sanibel”.

Another clip shows him wading through floodwater saying “We have not had water like this in my almost 35-40 years on Sanibel.” The National Hurricane Centre in Miami warned as of 4pm EST of tropical storm forced winds along the Florida Gulf coast with heavy rainfall and the possibility of flash flooding in South Florida. The storm is expected to pass through central Florida today (Thursday).
