Riot police deployed after gang of youths attack police officers and vehicles

Riot police have had to be deployed after a night of “lawless behaviour” which saw a gang of out-of-control youths attack officers and damage vehicles.

Police were called as a large group of youngsters gathered in Halton, Leeds at around 4.30pm on Saturday.

However when they arrived the gang turned on them, grabbing objects and attacking them and their cars.

It is reported that 2 officers were hit although sustained no injuries. The officers called for backup and the riot police arrived to disband the group of unruly youths.

They stayed at the scene in Kendal Drive for the duration of the night to make sure the incident did not flare up again.

Police are working on identifying those involved and one man has already been arrested.

Temporary Assistant Chief Constable Oz Khan, from West Yorkshire Police, said “This sort of lawless behaviour is absolutely unacceptable in our communities and a full investigation is taking place into what occurred on Saturday evening.

Two police officers were struck by objects and police vehicles were damaged in the disorder which took place, and we are working to identify those involved who will be prosecuted to the full extent of the law.

Local neighbourhood policing team officers are also conducting reassurance patrols in the area, speaking with residents and doing what they can to support households there.” He finished off by saying that anyone with information or who could identify any of the troublemakers are urged to get in touch with the police.
