Wetherspoons are slashing real ale prices to 99p a pint before the lockdown starts
British boozers who enjoy a pint of real ale are in for a pre lockdown treat as the pub chain wetherspoons slash prices to 99p to offload stocks.
Today, Sunday, the chain announced all real ale will be on sale for 99p per pint until they are forced to close at the end of business on Wednesday.
The sale is for brands of ale due to go off while the pubs are forced in to one month closure – with punters able to get their hands on cheap drinks while they can.
Spokesman Eddie Gershon for Wetherspoons said:“All of our pubs in England will be serving their real ales at 99p a pint until the pubs close on Wednesday night.
“The reality is that any real ales not sold between now and lockdown will have to be thrown away, so it is better that customers can enjoy it at a great price while the pubs remain open.”
While a source from Wetherspoons said: “Now Boris has shut the pubs and we are left with full cellars and the real ale will not last a month and we faced having to pour it all away.”
“The only sensible option was to split the difference and ask our real ale fans to come to our rescue and offer them our beer at 99p a pint
“We will be doing them a huge favour and they will be doing us a huge one! Our doors close at 10pm on Wednesday so the challenge is thrown down.”
Drinkers upon hearing the news are delighted at the great beer giveaway, Chris Manning, a real ale lover in Sussex told Global247news this afternoon: ” I don’t normally use Spoons as I find them a bit of a dive but at 99p it would be rude not too”
Whilst in Somerset, Adrian Vincent in Yeovil said: ” The one in Yeovil you stick to the carpet when you walk in and its in a right rough area of the town but at 99p it will be worth hanging out with Town’s dross – I think I will give it a go this week”
