Gunman shot dead by Police in Avignon after threatening people with weapon.
The incident in happened on the same morning that three people were killed in a church in Nice, whose mayor has described the knife attack as terrorism.
The man was shot dead in Montfavet, a district in the city of Avignon, police said. Authorities said he had threatened passers by with a handgun.
French radio station Europe 1 have reported that the man had shouted “Allahu Akbar”.
France’s terror threat level has now been raised to its maximum following.
Meanwhile in Saudi Arabia on Thursday, a man was arrested after attacking and injuring a guard at the French consulate in Jeddah.
