Walter Wallace shooting: Police officers injured during riots after black man killed in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

At least 30 police officers were hurt during violent clashes last night in Philadelphia, USA.

Protesters took to the streets of the City of Brotherly Love en masse at outrage over the shooting of another African-American man at the hands of police.

One police officer was hospitalized, a 56-year-old female sergeant who was struck by a pickup truck at 52nd and Walnut in the early hours of Tuesday.

The officer suffered a broken leg, authorities said.

The shooting of black man Wallace happened around 3:50 p.m. Monday when officers responded to a domestic call along the 6100 block of Locust Street.

Police officers fatally shot the 27-year-old who was armed with a knife during a confrontation Monday afternoon in West Philadelphia.

The incident quickly raised tensions in the city and thousands of angry protests erupted in scenes reminiscent of the George Floyd killing in Minneapolis, Minnesota in May.

29 of the 30 officers apart from the sergeant with the broken leg have been released from hospital.

As of Tuesday morning, police said 33 people have been arrested in connection to the overnight unrest.
