Data from the Office for National Statistics show that Covid-19 deaths in England and Wales have risen by 53% in the last week.
Weekly deaths linked to coronavirus have increased in England and Wales for the sixth week in a row.
670 deaths were registered in the week ending 16 October with Covid 19 recorded on the death certificate. This compares with 438 the week before. It is the highest number of registered deaths involving coronavirus since the week ending 19 June.
About one in eight (12%) of the 4,346 registered hospital deaths in England and Wales in the week ending 16 October involved coronavirus.
