A Brit is accused of murdering his wife by strangling her and stabbing her 11 times after they had sex in their Spanish home.
Geoffrey Elton, 56, allegedly killed mum-of-two Gloria Tornay, 58, before kicking his son, 15, out of their Spanish home on the Costa del Sol and getting rid of any phones in the property.
He was later charged with her murder. Spanish prosecutors are now seeking a 14-year sentence for Elton and up to £180,000 compensation for her children, it has been reported.
In an indictment submitted to a judge ahead of trial, they allege that he had sex with Ms Tornay in their bedroom with the ‘obvious intention of ending her life after’. They then allege that he ‘suddenly and totally unexpectedly began to hit her in the face’ before trying to suffocate her on March 9 last year.
They claim this was unsuccessful, leading to him stabbing her 11 times with a ‘5.7 inch long kitchen knife’.
Ms Tornay died after going into ‘hypovolemic shock’ due to the amount of the blood she lost, the indictment states. Prosecutors allege that Elton took advantage of her consumption of morphine and methadone before the attack.
They went on: ‘After what happened, the accused expelled their son from the property, threw his mobile phone, that of his wife’s and the home phone outside, and shut down power to the house. ‘This was done with the aim of ensuring the success of his actions by making it impossible for the emergency services to arrive in time and stop anyone entering the property to help the victim.’
Elton ran a successful satellite installation firm before retiring at the age of 50. He has been held on remand in prison since his wife’s murder. Ms Tornay, a Spanish national from a village near Ronda in southern Spain, was allegedly planning to leave her husband before the attack.
