Nine children have been charged with murder after stabbing in Melbourne
A total of 11 people, including nine children, have been charged with the murder of a Melbourne teenager, four months after he was fatally stabbed.
Solomone Taufeulungaki was killed outside Brimbank Shopping Centre in Deer Park on June 16.
Today, the homicide squad charged 11 people with murder.
All 11 were previously charged with offences including violent disorder and affray in relation to the incident, however those charges have subsequently been upgraded to murder.
Nine of those charged were aged 17 and under with the youngest just 13.
A 23-year-old Hoppers Crossing man and a 20-year-old Sunshine man, who are both currently at a correctional facility, were also among those charged with murder.
The nine boys will appear at a children’s court on 1 December.
The two adults will face Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on 25 November.
“Police understand the adverse impact these gangs have in the community, whether it’s disputes between those groups or the high harm offences they commit on members of the general public,” Crime Command Assistant Commissioner Bob Hill said.
“It’s critical that people involved in those gangs understand that police, whether it be investigators from the Homicide or Gang Crime Squads, right through to local police, will ensure all the associated criminality is thoroughly investigated.”
