A racist prisoner is to be moved to a soft open prison causing outrage amongst anti racism campaigners
Micheal Barton, brother of football manager Joey Barton, is set to be moved to an open prison after a recommendation by the UK parole board.
Michael Barton was 17 when he hurled racist abuse at 18-year-old Anthony walker and attacked him in a park in 2005.
During the racist attack and axe was smashed into the victims head by an assailant of Barton’s.
Barton’s 20-year-old cousin, Paul Taylor, smashed an ice ace into Walker’s head during the ambush in Merseyside.
At the time, sentencing judge Mr Justice Leveson said the pair were guilty of “racist thuggery of a type that is poisonous to any civilised society”.
A parole board document states, : “After considering the circumstances of his offending and the progress made while in custody, as well as the benefits and risks of Mr Barton transferring to open conditions, the panel recommended that he should be progressed in this way.”
It is now for the Justice Secretary to decide whether to accept the Board’s recommendation.
Meanwhile anti racism campaigners are furious, citing that the offence was that bad, Barton should remain in a full time hard jail.
June Rose told Global247news her fury, the anti racism campaigner said: ” This was a full blown racist attack and should see the offender remain in a hard jail for the full sentence, if you read the full probation report you will see he’s hardly been a model prisoner”
” The Parole Board have gone soft, this racist pig should do his time the hard way, not be awarded open prison”
” The decision is a slight against every victim of racism and every black person residing in the UK” she stormed.
