A court has been told that a prison officer who had a ‘sexual relationship’ with a convicted murderer has given birth to his child.
Prison officer gave birth to prisoner’s child: Officer Kerianne Stephens, 26, started an affair with inmate Louis Tate while working at HMS Swaleside prison on the Isle of Sheppey in Kent. She has admitted to misconduct over the relationship with murderer Tate which lasted a few months. She has been told that she will be facing an immediate jail sentence.
Maidstone Crown Court heard that Tate, who was jailed for life in 2010 for the murder of Garry Frater, is the father of her child. They had a sexual relationship for several months between September 2018 and January 2019. However when the affair came to light Stephens was moved to another prison to work.
As a probation report on Stephens is currently being prepared, sentencing was adjourned on Monday. The Judge presiding on the case, Philip Statman, told Stephens that. “Regrettably you must prepare yourself to face an immediate custodial sentence.” although he will take into consideration her child when passing sentence. She was released on bail to reappear with Tate on 12th November.
