After a trial at Southwark Crown Court that lasted a week, ex Blue Peter presenter John Leslie has been found not guilty of sexual assault charges. After being accused of grabbing a woman’s breasts at a Christmas party in 2008.
Presenter John Leslie cleared of sexual assault charges: The decision was reached by a jury of 9 men and 3 women on Monday. After it took them just 23 minutes of deliberations. It is reported that Leslie, real name John Stott, cried and nodded towards the jury. The Judge, Deborah Taylor, said “Mr Stott, you for the second time leave this court without a stain on your character. And I hope it will be the last time you have to attend.”
After the verdict was announced Leslie’s father, Les, who had been in attendance at court every day with his son, gave him a big hug. During the trial Leslie told the jury that he couldn’t remember attending the party. And described the allegation of sexual assault against him “crazy” and “ludicrous”.
He also told the jury that he blamed the press for making him out to be an. “aggressive, sexual monster”. And said that he would of never touched a woman in that way and then just walked away. He said that during the allegations he became depressed, paranoid and reclusive.
During the trial he was supported by ex colleagues from Blue Peter. Also ex-This Morning co-presenter Fern Britton. All of whom gave character references for him.
