French authorities have said that a teenager asked pupils to identify the teacher. Before beheading him outside the school that he worked at in Paris.

Teacher beheaded outside Paris school: They have said that they suspect it is an Islamist terrorist attack. Jean-Francois Ricard, anti-terrorism prosecutor, said that the 18-year-old who attacked Samuel Paty, 47, and has remained unnamed, asked around outside the school for pupils to identify Mr Paty before murdering him. The young attacker is said to be of Chechen origin and was born in Russia.

Armed police were called and killed the attacker minutes later in the Paris suburb of Conflans-Sainte-Honorine on Friday. A mobile phone found near his body contained a photo of the murdered teacher. Also a message ready to post on Twitter claiming responsibility for his actions. The horrific incident appears to have come about after Mr Paty showed his pupils a cartoon of the Prophet Muhammed during a lesson on freedom of expression. Which angered Muslim parents as they believe any depiction of the Prophet is blasphemous.

During the days that followed the lesson the pupil’s father recorded videos branding the history teacher a thug. And ranted that he should be sacked from his job. In one particular video, all of which were posted to social media, he asked people to “rise up” and say “stop, don’t touch our children”.

Later, Police detained 9 relatives of the attacker and people close to him. Including the father of one of Paty’s pupils and an acquaintance of the killer’s father who was known to intelligence services. Muslim leaders were quick to condemn Friday’s killing. And said that it would not help France’s Muslim community.

Following the attack, Emmanuel Macron, French President, said that. “the Islamist terrorist attack was targeting freedom of expression. And the whole country stands behind its teachers. Terrorists will not divide France, obscurantism will not win.” The killing has shocked the country and pupils have laid flower tributes at the school gates.
