A woman from Italy who had been putting drugs in her colleague’s coffee for 9 months. Hoping she would be sacked from her position in the company has been jailed for 4 years.
Woman jailed for spiking her co-workers coffee with drugs: After hearing rumours that job cuts were being looked at in the insurance company she worked for in Bra, Piedmont, Mariangela Cerrato, 53, started lacing her co-workers coffee with benzodiazepine powder. While she was in charge of doing the coffees for her team. The victim held the same position as Ms Cerrato a court heard.
Her victim’s lawyer, Cristiano Burdese, said that. “The drug induces fatigue, headaches, dizziness and muscular pain. And my client’s work rate slowed after she drank the cappuccino”. The female victim began to suspect something wasn’t right after having an accident in her car on the way home from work, hitting a tree.
Afterwards, She said that doctors could find nothing wrong with her. And that was when she started to suspect that it might be her coffee she was drinking at work as she felt fine when she wasn’t there. Her suspicions were confirmed when Cerrato began to push coffee onto her. Saying that it wouldn’t do her any harm.
Subsequently, the victim accepted the drink but decided to keep a sample for testing. Later, this showed “extremely high” levels of benzodiazepine. She informed the police straight away and they set up a secret camera which caught Cerrato putting the powder in her coffee. Even after video proof that she was guilty, she has denied the charges and will appeal her 4 year sentence her lawyer said.
However, the twist in the tail is that, when questioned, the insurance company that they worked for said that during the time the drugging occured, back in 2017, they had no plans to make anyone redundant and were actually hiring new staff.
