BREAKING: Boris Johnson announces new coronavirus rules

Boris Johnson warns he may ‘need to intervene’ on Manchester as coronavirus cases continue to rise.

The PM has said the situation in Greater Manchester is “grave”.  Mr. Johnson says he may “need to intervene” if new measures are not agreed. He urged mayor Andy Burnham to “engage constructively” with the government over the region entering “very high” tier three measures.

Mr Burnham has called the tougher rules “flawed and unfair”.  He also wants more financial support for people affected by the changes.

Tier three measures include pub closures and a ban on households mixing indoors. The Liverpool City area was the first of England’s regions to enter the highest alert level.

The county of Lancashire has agreed to move to tier 3 from Saturday. A financial support package worth £42m has been agreed. About 1.5 million people will be affected by the new rules.  Global247News Twitter
