John Leslie, a former presenter on the popular children’s program Blue Peter, laughed as he groped a woman at a Christmas party.
John Leslie laughed as he groped woman’s breasts at party: The jury at Southwark Crown Court was told that 55-year-old Leslie is accused of a “deliberate sexual assault” at the party in London’s West End in December 2008. The court heard that the woman only came forward with her complaint after a campaign was launched in 2017. Telling women that they cannot be victims.
Leslie, who appeared on Blue Peter from 1989 to 1994 and also went on to front Wheel of Fortune and presented This Morning, denies sexual assault. Jocelyn Ledward, prosecuting, told the jury that Leslie deliberately grabbed the woman’s breast for a few seconds. While he laughed, then just strolled away.
She said that although the victim was stunned by the act she did not report it to police. She went on to say that Leslie denies this and he said that if any contact did take place it must of been accidental. The woman approached him at the bar after recognising him. And they smiled at each other.
According to Ms Ledward that, without further ado, he grabbed both her breasts with both hands for about 3 seconds while laughing.
He then walked off as if it was a perfectly normal thing to do. The jury was told that Leslie attended a police interview in March 2018. Where he supposedly told them that he had never assaulted anybody, ever. As the case against him was outlined in court he sat silently listening. The trial opened on Monday. However the jury were dismissed with the judge saying that it would re-start on the Tuesday.
She addressed the jury and told them. “A juror is unable to carry on. So what I am going to do is, since we are in the early stages (of this case). Is to discharge this jury and swear in another.”
