The President of the USA finally returned home after spending a few days in hospital with the coronavirus.
The 74 year old leader removed his mask just before entering the historic building to smile and wave to the cameras.
President Trump, wearing a mask and a suit, passed through the hospital’s large golden doors, paused atop a flight of steps and pumped his fist a few times at chest level. He did not respond to shouted questions from the news media as he walked past, unaccompanied. “Thank you very much, everybody,” he said with a wave.
He then boarded a black S.U.V. that drove him to his presidential helicopter, Marine One, for the short flight to the White House. He offered a thumbs-up just before stepping onto his helicopter, which departed just after 6:45 p.m. for the 10-minute flight.
After landing on the South Lawn, the President ascended a flight of stairs and then turned to face his helicopter — and the live television cameras — and removed his mask before giving the departing Marine One a long salute.
Several aides posted social media messages Monday suggesting the president had “defeated” the virus.
Hogan Gidley, a Trump campaign spokesman, posted a GIF of Trump throwing a celebratory fist in the air at a WWE event.
Campaign spokesman Tim Murtaugh said Trump plans to participate in the Oct. 15th presidential debate to be set in Miami, Florida.
However, others were less convinced. Former Gov. Christine Todd Whitman, a New Jersey Republican, described the decision to leave as “irresponsible” and “shocking.”
“Leaving 1 of the best hospitals, having received drugs the average person doesn’t have access to, going home w/ full medical staff, he has the audacity to say don’t fear #COVID19 & he feels better than ever? THIS is our President?!” she tweeted.
CNN lambasted Trump for removing his mask whilst going back into the White House.
‘President Donald Trump staged a reckless departure from Walter Reed National Military Medical Center on Monday.’ the news outlet said yesterday.
The President urged people to get on with their lives tweeting “Don’t be afraid of Covid. Don’t let it dominate your life,” Trump wrote several hours before walking carefully out of the hospital’s gold front doors, even as his doctors warned he wasn’t yet “out of the woods.”
