A woman from Leeds was caught smuggling £2 million to Dubai at Heathrow Airport.
Tara Hanlon, 30, from Leeds, was caught with the cash in her luggage when she was due to fly to Dubai on Saturday at Terminal 2, 8:00pm.
Border Force officers searched her luggage and found £1.9 million in sterling notes stuffed into her suitcase. This is the largest amount uncovered by Border Force this year.
Hanlon was arrested alongside a 28-year-old woman.
An investigation has been launched by the National Crime Agency and Tanlon was charged with money laundering.
Tory MP Chris Philp said: ‘This is the largest individual cash seizure at the border so far in 2020 and I am delighted with the efforts of Border Force officers.
‘Preventing the export of undeclared cash from the UK is a vital step in clamping down on organised criminal gangs.’
Hanlon appeared at Uxbridge Magistrates Court where she was remanded in custody until her next appearance.
