It is understood that a man from Northern Ireland had died and 2 of his friends are in hospital. Both in a critical condition after they took a trip to Turkey to have dental work carried out.
One man dead and two critically ill after dental trip: The three men were found in the Turkish city of Marmaris on Saturday and were described as three healthy and fit young men. The dead man has been named as Richard Molloy aged 33 and his two friends. Declan Carson and Aaron Callaghan are said to be in comas although their condition has improved slightly.
Sources close to the three men said that they had booked the trip to undergo a teeth whitening dental procedure. There are reports that, before being discovered unconscious in the apartment that they had rented, they had taken medication linked to the prodecure.
Also, there has also been no suggestion made that the medication was the cause of death. Or the fact that Mr Carson and Mr Callaghan fell unconscious. At least one of the men’s families are travelling to be with them in Marmaris while arrangements are being made to fly Mr Molloy’s body home. A Foreign Office spokesperson said in a statement that. “We are supporting the family of a British man who has died in Turkey and we are in contact with the Turkish authorities.”
Meanwhile the Irish Government said. “we are aware of the case and are providing consular assistance”. The SDLP deputy mayor of Belfast, Paul McCusker, described the news as “worrying and devastating”. North Belfast Sinn Fein councillor JJ Magee said the Ardoyne community, where the men are from, was “in a state of shock”.
