After suffering years of mental and physical torture at the hands of her foster mother. A woman has died at the age of 35.
Victim of torture by her foster mother dies aged 35: Victoria Spry, who was abused by her sadistic foster mother Eunice Spry for 20 years, went on to become a passionate advocate against abuse. And worked with social services in Gloucestershire in the hope that she could prevent these tragic cases from happening.
An inquest in to Victoria’s death will take place but so far no details have been released. Although police say that they are not treating it as suspicious. Bristol Crown Court heard in 2007 that Eunice Spry beat Victoria, along with 2 other children. With sticks and metal bars and made them eat bleach, vomit, lard and, on some occasions, their own faeces.
The court heard that she also scrubbed their skin with sandpaper. Her horrifically sadistic abuse of the children didn’t stop there. She made one use a wheelchair for 4 years to claim benefits, even though the child was perfectly well. And on another occasion kept 2 of them locked in a room, naked and starving, for a whole month.
Eunice Spry was a Jehovah’s Witness and seemed on the surface to be an upstanding member of the community. However, she abused the children in her care as she thought that they were possessed by the devil.
Judge Simon Darwell-Smith jailed Mrs Spry for 14 years and told her that it was the worst case of abuse he had seen in the whole of his career. He said that she was careful to abuse the children in her care without being found out. And that, if it was up to him alone, she would be getting a sentence that she would never be released from.
Spry was convicted of 26 charges. Including unlawful wounding, cruelty to a person under 16, assault occasioning actual bodily harm, perverting the course of justice, and witness intimidation.
